The Potter League for Animals is Rhode Island’s go-to animal care and resource center, where we provide shelter, veterinary care, behavior training, spay & neuter, owner assistance programs, humane education, and the opportunity for thousands of animals to find loving homes each year.
The Potter League owns and operates three facilities: the Animal Care and Adoption Center located in Middletown, RI, where we provide animal care & adoption services, accept owner-surrendered animals, as well as all stray animals from those communities with which we have an animal control-housing contract; the Potter League Spay & Neuter Clinic located in Warwick, RI where we provide subsidized spay & neuter surgeries on dogs and cats in RI; and our Pets In Need Veterinary Clinic located in Riverside, RI, where we provide full-service, low-cost veterinary care to income-qualifying Rhode Islanders.
Below is a list of community support programs and services we provide to families and how to access them:
Our vaccine clinics provide essential vaccinations to keep pets healthy and protected, and we believe every pet owner should have access to affordable services for their pets.

Potter League for Animals offers financial assistance through the C.A.R.E. (Companion Animal Relief Effort) Fund to provide assistance to Aquidneck Island and Newport County pet owners who currently are unable to finance the medical treatment necessary for their pet’s specific illness, injury, or routine medical care. In order to utilize this program, owners must be responsible pet parents, have no history of animal abuse or neglect, and meet specific guidelines. Recommendation, referral, or veterinary records from a veterinarian or veterinarian's office will be required for chronic or emergency medical conditions.
If you would like to apply for financial assistance, please contact us at 401-846-8276 or info@potterleague.org.
Please note: The C.A.R.E. Fund benefits only patients and clients who are residents of Newport County. While many patients and clients have benefited from C.A.R.E. and we make every effort to maximize our funding of C.A.R.E., the fund is limited, and clients must meet eligibility criteria in order to qualify.
